Welcome Parents, Guardians and Students,
I hope you all had an awesome summer, and are as ready as I am to start the new school year. This year we are going to take a trip around the world and learn about rich and diverse history of many early modern societies. Together we are going to learn that history is more than just facts and dates, it’s a great unfinished story that we all get to take a part in writing. That includes everyone that sits in the seats of my classroom. So, students, buckle-up, we’re in for a pretty exciting ride. WELCOME TO THE TIME MACHINE!!!
Expectations:
- Be on time to class (in seat when bell rings).
- Be prepared (have all supplies and all assignments ready).
- Be respectful (pay attention, don’t distract other students).
- Be ready to do your best.
Zero Tolerance:
These are non-breakable rules where no warning is provided before action is taken – violations of these rules mean immediate referral to the counselor, write-up and call home).
- No violence (hitting, shoving, etc.)
- No profane or disrespectful language.
- No bullying or intimidation of other students.
I also expect to all students to follow all of the school and district rules.
Consequences:
Students who violate my classroom rules/expectation will face the following consequences:
1st Offense |
Verbal Warning |
2nd Offense |
15 minute teacher detention |
3rd Offense |
Parent phone call Office Referral. |

Detentions:
Detentions in my class are assigned primarily on Fridays after school or at my discretion. I will provide no less than one week notice, by either phone message or written notification, to both students and parents prior to a student serving their detention. If a student fails to attend a detention the detention time is doubled up to a half an hour, after which time students will be issued a referral.
Cheating and Plagiarism:
Better to be original and do your best than be caught using someone else’s work. Plagiarism and cheating will not be accepted in my class. This includes any copying off of the internet or out of any book or textbook.
Course Overview:
By the end of their experience in my class:
- Students will understand the different perspectives, events, people and ideas as they relate to the global community past and present.
- Students will gain historical investigation skills that will assist them in their future career or academic pursuits.
Historical Civilizations and Content:
We will be exploring the medieval and early modern history of the following world cultures and civilizations:
Rome Islam Africa
Medieval China Medieval Japan Medieval Europe
The Renaissance The Reformation Mesoamerica
Common Core Skills:
The four major Common Core skills that the students will learn to develop in my class are as follows:
- Consider perspectives and supporting opinions.
- The ability to perform a Close Reading, citing evidence and noting textual details.
- Perform research with a deep level of understanding.
- The ability to make evidence-based claims and arguments.
Materials and Supplies:
Students must bring 3 things to class everyday:
- A blue/black ink pen or pencil.
- Their student issued Chromebook.
- A section in their binder with sheets of lined paper to take notes.
I will inform parents/student ahead of time if any additional supplies or materials will be necessary.
Absent or Missing work:
It is easy to fall behind in the class if a student misses a day. If that does happen, it is the student’s responsibility to make up any missing work from the missing assignment box in the room and to acquire any missing notes from another student. Any quizzes or tests must be made up the students upon returning to class either before or after school, I will accept missing quizzes up to two weeks after their assigned due date. Missed assignments maybe turned in one week after the first due date without loss of credit, any further delay will result in loss of credit or zero credit if an assignment or test isn’t made up within a week.
What you can expect from me:
I am available one hour before and one hour after school (except Wednesdays) for an additional help that a student might require. Also, I endeavor to do my best and be a professional at work. I take my job seriously and am proud and enthusiastic about what I do.
TECHNOLOGY/GRADING/ASSIGNMENTS
