Background:

One of the key concepts of The Renaissance was the philosophy of Humanism.  Humanism, simply put, it the idea that human beings are intelligent and capable of handling their own affairs without the need for something otherworldly for guidance or assistance.  The influence of the philosophy of Humanism is seen everywhere in the Renaissance, from its politics, to its literature, but the area where the concept of Humanism was the most influential was in the creation of great works of art.

Directions:

Watch the video entitled Humanism and use the information from the video to answer the video guide questions.  In addition use the internet to complete the art comparison activity on the back of the video guide. For this art comparison activity you will select a piece of artwork that originates from the early medieval era in Europe (anything prior to 1230 AD) and the select a piece of artwork that originates from The Renaissance in Europe (anything between 1300 - 1600).  You will print these two piece of artwork out and paste them to your worksheet.  In addition you will provide the title for each piece of artwork and the name of the artists for the artwork that was created during The Renaissance.  A digital copy of the video guide and activity worksheet has been attached to this post.
