Course Description
This course will first explore the importance of clothing, as a personal and cultural means of expression. Students will learn about how clothing has changed and fashion has developed through history; the trends that have stood the test of time; fashion icons and designers; sustainability and the future. We will explore how principles and elements of visual and artistic design are applied in the worlds of art, fashion, and merchandising. Other lessons that will be covered include; identifying clothing, accessories, textiles, and fabrics. We will learn about hand stitching, repairing clothing, how to read a pattern, and sewing basics. As the course continues in the Spring semester, students will take home two sewing projects, compete in the OC Fair’s Imaginology, participate in Art on the Lawn, and partner with senior Fashion students from SAC.
